The incident, which occurred near the compound’s main gate, also injured at least nine other law enforcement officers and civilians.
Two suicide attackers attempted to infiltrate the compound, according to a senior police officer, but “timely action” by security staff prevented the attack. “Immediate retaliation by personnel killed the attackers,” he went on to say.
“A major attack has been foiled,” said Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police Inspector General (IG) Akhtar Hayat Khan in a brief statement.
Tayyab and Noor Bahadur were among those killed, while Hanif, Abdul Hadi, Ajmal, Zubair, Nawaz, and Gulzeb were among those injured. Waris Khan and M. Arshad were identified as the injured citizens.
Soon after the explosion, law enforcement and emergency services arrived on the scene. The area was blocked off, and the injured were sent to local hospitals.
Following the explosion, there were additional reports of heavy gunfire in the neighborhood.
A police spokeswoman stated that sensitive agency offices are located in the area where the explosion occurred, and that security teams entered the buildings following the attack for “retaliatory action.”
PM Shehbaz has condemned the attack.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident and conveyed his deep regret and sorrow over the deaths of police officers.
