Heavy Traffic Jam Hits Islamabad as CM Afridi’s Convoy Faces Blockade Near 26 Number Chungi

Residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi faced severe travel difficulties on Tuesday after major road closures caused widespread disruption across the twin cities. Several important routes were sealed by authorities, leading to long queues of vehicles and a massive Traffic Jam in different parts of the federal capital.

One of the worst-affected areas was Srinagar Highway near the toll plaza, where traffic movement came to a complete halt. The congestion quickly spread toward Motorway Chowk, leaving thousands of commuters stuck for hours in slow-moving or completely blocked traffic.

The situation became more intense after Islamabad Police reportedly stopped a large Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) convoy near 26 Number Chungi. According to reports, the convoy was led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and was traveling toward the capital when authorities intercepted it.

The blockage near 26 Number Chungi triggered a tense confrontation between convoy participants and law enforcement personnel. The incident further worsened the already serious Traffic Jam in surrounding areas.

Reports stated that the convoy was heading toward Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Supporters claimed the visit was peaceful and linked to a scheduled family visitation involving the sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan.

Eyewitnesses said emotions remained high at the scene as supporters chanted slogans and gathered around the blocked route. The political activity and road blockades created additional pressure on nearby roads and intersections.

Commuters expressed frustration over the hours-long delays caused by the road closures. Many office workers, students, and travelers remained trapped in their vehicles as traffic movement slowed across several major roads.

Authorities defended the closures by citing security and law-and-order concerns. Officials stated that preventive measures were necessary to maintain public safety and avoid possible disturbances in sensitive areas of the city.

However, critics questioned the scale of the restrictions and argued that the measures created unnecessary inconvenience for ordinary citizens. Some political leaders described the closures as excessive and politically motivated.

The ongoing Traffic Jam also affected emergency movement and public transport in several sectors of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Social media users shared videos and pictures showing long lines of vehicles and overcrowded roads during peak traffic hours.

Traffic police attempted to manage the situation by redirecting vehicles toward alternative routes. Despite these efforts, congestion continued in several areas throughout the day.

The latest incident highlights growing concerns over traffic management during political activities and security operations in the capital. Citizens have urged authorities to improve coordination and reduce disruption to public movement during such situations.
