ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered police to provide protection to a lady doctor.
The court issued the written order on Monday. The order came during the hearing of a petition filed by Dr. Nuzhat Shakir.
Dr. Nuzhat had approached the court over the alleged occupation of her home. She also sought protection from the authorities.
The IHC bench was headed by Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro. The court directed police officials to ensure the doctor’s security.
The court specifically directed the Inspector General of Islamabad Police to take necessary measures. It also directed the SSP and relevant station house officer to provide protection.
The bench issued notices to the respondents in the case. The respondents were asked to submit their replies before the court.
After hearing the matter, the IHC adjourned the proceedings. The next hearing has been scheduled for October 13.
Missing Afzal Maseeh Case
The IHC also heard another petition concerning the disappearance of Afzal Maseeh. His wife had filed the petition after he went missing from Islamabad.
According to the petitioner, Afzal Maseeh could not be recovered despite an earlier court order. The matter was heard by Justice Arbab Muhammad.
Two respondents named in the petition, Raja Yasir and Faisal, appeared before the court. Police officials also presented their position during the hearing.
A deputy superintendent of police told the court that the missing man had a financial dispute. The police requested additional time to recover him.
The petitioner’s lawyer also agreed to allow police more time. The lawyer requested that authorities be given until October 7.
The court considered the request and granted police two additional days. The bench directed the authorities to recover Afzal Maseeh by Friday.
The court order places responsibility on police to continue efforts for his recovery. The matter will remain under judicial consideration as the investigation continues.
The two cases were heard separately before different benches of the Islamabad High Court. One case concerns protection for a lady doctor, while the other involves a missing person.
