Karachi Citizen Fined Rs 50,000 Over Traffic Violations He Did Not Commit

Karachi: A resident of Delhi Colony, Junaid Saleem, has been wrongly fined Rs 50,000 by the Karachi Traffic Police over two months for traffic violations he claims he did not commit.

Saleem stated that another person has been using his vehicleโ€™s number plate on a different car, leading to repeated traffic penalties in Karachi.

According to Saleem, he was first sent back and forth between traffic facilitation centers before his vehicle was blacklisted. Despite his efforts, authorities initially refused to register his complaint.

The first challan was issued on November 2 at Hassan Square on Lyari Expressway for a seatbelt violation, carrying a fine of Rs 10,000 and two demerit points. The second came on November 12 at Baloch Colony Bridge on Shahrah-e-Faisal, again for not wearing a seatbelt, with a Rs 10,000 fine and two demerit points.

A third challan was issued on December 13 at Baloch Colony Bridge for the same violation. On December 18, Saleem received a fourth challan at the National Stadium Flyover (Arena End) for using a mobile phone while driving, resulting in a Rs 10,000 fine and four demerit points. The fifth and final challan came on December 26 at the same location for another mobile phone use violation, carrying a Rs 10,000 fine and four demerit points.

Saleem said he initially approached the Ferozabad Traffic Facilitation Center, where officials refused to register his complaint. He expressed frustration over the lack of accountability and the repeated penalization for violations he did not commit.

Karachi residents are calling for stricter verification measures by traffic authorities to prevent misuse of vehicle number plates and wrongful challans. Citizens hope the Karachi Traffic Police will investigate the matter and provide relief to Saleem.
