In a push to provide women with more independent and dignified employment opportunities, the Punjab government has launched new driving schools across Lahore. Locations like Greater Iqbal Park, Kahna Misaq Centre, and the Police Khidmat Center in Bahria Town now host these schools, specifically designed for women. Other key spots include Liberty Khidmat Markaz and Abshar Driving School on Jail Road.
Chief Traffic Officer Lahore, Amara Athar, highlighted that these schools are operated by women instructors and cater exclusively to female students. The training also includes basic electrical and mechanical skills, alongside driving lessons. Additionally, the “Ride for Change” program offers scooter training at universities, aiming to increase women’s mobility.

A similar initiative, the ‘Women on Wheels’ program, recently launched in Rawalpindi by Chief Traffic Officer Beenish Fatima, focuses on empowering women through scooter and motorcycle driving lessons. Aligned with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision, it encourages women to gain independence in their daily commutes.
The Rawalpindi launch saw a ribbon-cutting ceremony, with around 25 women initially expected to benefit from the training. CTO Fatima emphasized that learning to drive allows women to travel freely to their educational institutions or workplaces, without relying on others for transportation.
