KARACHI: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning about dust-thunderstorms in upper Sindh districts. The alert comes as a westerly weather system is expected to enter the region on Saturday evening.
According to officials, the PDMA has predicted strong winds and dust storms on May 2 and 3. Director General Salman Shah said the weather conditions could disrupt daily life in affected areas. He warned that strong winds may damage electricity poles, billboards, and solar panels.
The PDMA also shared that temperatures are likely to drop during this period. This change may bring some relief from the ongoing extreme heat across Sindh. Residents have been facing high temperatures for several days, especially in urban areas.
Farmers have been advised to take precautions to protect their crops. The PDMA urged growers to secure loose materials and avoid unnecessary exposure during the storm period. District administrations have also been directed to remain alert and ensure emergency preparedness.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has confirmed the arrival of a fresh westerly wave. According to the department, the system will first affect northwestern parts of the country. It is expected to move toward upper regions and continue until May 5.
The weather system may also impact other provinces. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, dust storms, rain, and isolated heavy showers are expected. Some areas could also experience hailstorms during this period.
Meanwhile, hot weather continues in Karachi and other parts of Sindh. The maximum temperature in Karachi may reach 39 degrees Celsius over the weekend. Chief Meteorologist Ameer Hyder confirmed the forecast and advised citizens to stay hydrated.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the weather system develops. The PDMA has emphasized the importance of public awareness and cooperation. Citizens are encouraged to follow safety guidelines and stay updated with official advisories.
