President Asif Ali Zardari has sanctioned the appointment of ad hoc judges to the Supreme Court of Pakistan under Article 182 of the Constitution.
The approval includes the appointment of retired Supreme Court judges Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel as ad hoc judges. Despite criticism from some lawyers and the PTI, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) endorsed their nominations for a one-year term last week.

During a JCP meeting chaired by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the nominations were approved by majority votes: Justice Sardar Tariq Masood by 8 to 1 and Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel by 6 to 3.
