The Punjab government has launched a green lockdown in Lahore’s Shimla Pahari and surrounding areas to combat alarming smog levels as part of the chief minister’s Multi-Sectoral Plan aimed at reducing air pollution. Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb announced the initiative, which aims to enhance air quality in the city.
As part of the lockdown, teams are spraying water mixed with disinfectants in high pollution areas, including Abbott Road, Golestan Chowk, Haji Camp, and Empress Road. Additionally, a hotline, 1373, has been established to allow citizens to report pollution levels, facilitating prompt responses to air quality concerns.

The campaign also focuses on clearing encroachments, with authorities planting 200 saplings while demolishing temporary structures in designated areas. Road repairs and special surveillance teams are being deployed to address traffic congestion, further contributing to improved air quality.
To encourage responsible practices, residents are urged to adopt carpooling and avoid unnecessary emissions. Monitoring of power generators in government offices is underway, ensuring compliance with emission standards. These comprehensive measures reflect the government’s commitment to creating a healthier environment for Lahore’s residents.
