A businessman in Rawalpindi has been booked under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016, for allegedly posting a misleading video about traffic violations. The video in question showed a car being lifted outside Hussain Autos on Kashmir Road due to improper parking, for which a challan had been issued.
The FIR was lodged by Traffic Police Warden Imran Sikandar at the Cantonment Police Station, accusing the businessman of spreading misinformation. The video, shared on TikTok under the account “Rizwan Singer,” was claimed to have been edited in a way that misrepresented the actions of the traffic police.

According to the FIR, the video was intended to provoke public hatred against the authorities. The Rawalpindi police have now initiated an investigation into the incident, citing that such actions fall under offenses defined in PECA, 2016.
This case has sparked concerns over the potential misuse of the countryโs cybercrime laws, especially after recent amendments to PECA that have broadened its application. The incident follows similar cases, including one in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a citizen was charged under PECA for questioning the official moon sighting committeeโs credibility.
