The Sindh Government has launched its Solar Home Systems (SHS) Project across four districts, with a formal ceremony held in Khairpur attended by lawmakers, officials, and local beneficiaries.
The initiative, introduced by the Sindh Energy Department under its renewable energy program, aims to provide 275,000 solar kits free of cost to low-income households in both on-grid and off-grid areas.
Out of the total, 132,000 systems are designated for off-grid regions, while 143,000 will be distributed in on-grid areas to support households facing electricity challenges.
The distribution process is being carried out by the Sindh Rural Support Organisation, ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive the solar kits efficiently.
During the ceremony, public representatives handed over mock solar kits and highlighted the importance of expanding access to clean and reliable energy across underserved communities.
Officials including senior members of the Energy Department and district administration also attended the event, emphasizing the governmentโs commitment to sustainable development.
Similar distribution ceremonies were held simultaneously in Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, and Shikarpur, with around 100 beneficiaries participating in each district.
Each solar kit includes a 180-watt solar panel, DC fan, three LED lights, charge controller, mobile charging facility, and a 50 Ah lithium battery with inverter.
The project is expected to significantly improve access to electricity for low-income families while promoting renewable energy solutions across Sindh.
