Earlier, a group of 81 Pakistanis, including pilgrims, who were stranded in Syria, safely crossed into Lebanon and returned to Lahore.
The Foreign Office confirmed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Embassy in Damascus coordinated their repatriation.
PM Shehbaz Sharif personally reached out to Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati to request urgent help for the safe evacuation of stranded Pakistanis through Beirut.
This development follows the capture of Damascus by rebel forces, which led to the end of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime and the establishment of a new transitional government in Syria.
