Wildlife Department Rescues Leopard Cub in Azad Kashmir

The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has rescued a female leopard cub from Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) Dhirkot Tehsil after it was attacked by locals, resulting in broken teeth, fractured legs, severe dehydration, and skin infections. Named “Lucky,” the five to six-month-old cub’s condition is now stable due to emergency medical care provided by IWMB.

Lucky is currently receiving initial veterinary medical care and will be transferred to the Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in the next few days. The cub has started eating meals, indicating positive progress in its recovery.

Wild leopards and other animals are frequently sighted in AJK and surrounding areas. Last year, IWMB officials faced injuries while attempting to contain a loose leopard in Islamabad. Despite efforts to capture it, the leopard managed to evade traps set by IWMB officials, causing injuries to a female wildlife officer.
