Fazl Backtracks, Claims Mention of Faiz's Name in Vote Of No Confidence Remarks was a Mistake

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, on Friday, reiterated his position on the events of 2022, clarifying his earlier statement regarding former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa and ex-director general Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed. He had initially accused both figures of orchestrating the downfall of the PTI government led by Imran Khan.

In an interview with a private TV channel, Maulana Fazl expressed opposition to the idea of tabling a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan. He highlighted the historical significance of the country witnessing the first-ever ouster of a prime minister through a no-confidence vote in 2022.

While Maulana Fazl was among the top opposition leaders leading efforts to remove the PTI founder under the banner of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), a recent statement provided clarification on his earlier remarks. He explained that mentioning Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed’s name was a “mistake,” while maintaining his stance on General (retd) Bajwa and Gen (retd) Faiz’s alleged involvement in election rigging during the 2018 elections.

Emphasizing that the matter should be consigned to history, Maulana Fazl stressed that he had disclosed everything necessary. He elaborated on the collaborative efforts of PDM, PPP, and ANP in daily meetings, and highlighted his numerous solo meetings with General Bajwa. Addressing the recent elections and a meeting with the PTI delegation, he commented on the lack of transparent elections, particularly in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Despite differences, Maulana Fazl mentioned a positive meeting with the PTI delegation, focusing on the issue of rigging in K-P. He concluded by prioritizing national goals over personal grudges, asserting that differences exist at the party level rather than a personal one. The clarification from the JUI-F leader followed intense scrutiny and speculation, sparking controversy within Pakistan’s political circles.
