Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has proposed a conditional apology for the May 9 riots, contingent on the release of CCTV footage of the events. Khan, speaking from Adiala Jail, believes that publicizing the footage will help identify and bring the culprits to justice. He stated that if any PTI members are found responsible, he would expel them and issue an apology.
Khan criticized the withholding of evidence, calling it a crime and questioning why it is being hidden. He claimed that he was ‘kidnapped’ under the guise of an arrest and demanded an apology for his alleged abduction. Emphasizing that peaceful protest is a right, Khan reiterated his demand for the footage’s release to identify those truly responsible.

Regarding the May 9 incidents, Khan denied that PTI used petrol bombs but admitted that supporters did use them in Zaman Park. He asserted that if any PTI officials are involved in illegal activities, they should face severe punishment.
Khan also expressed his willingness to negotiate with the army, stating that the army should appoint a representative for discussions. He reiterated his commitment to staying within constitutional bounds and sought the return of PTI’s allegedly stolen mandate.
