ICC Moves Women's T20 World Cup 2024 From Bangladesh to UAE

The ICC has officially relocated the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 from Bangladesh to the UAE due to ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. The tournament will now be held in the UAE from October 3 to October 20, 2024, instead of its originally planned venue in Bangladesh.

The decision follows travel advisories from countries like Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand, advising against travel to Bangladesh due to the current situation there.

ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardyce expressed regret over the change, emphasizing that the safety and security of players and staff were the top priority. He thanked both the Bangladesh Cricket Board for their efforts and the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in.

While the venue has been changed, Bangladesh will still co-host the event with the UAE. Matches will be played in prominent stadiums in Dubai and Sharjah to ensure smooth proceedings.

The unrest in Bangladesh has involved large student protests and the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, with an interim government led by Dr. Yunus currently in place. The ICC remains hopeful of hosting future events in Bangladesh once the situation improves and reaffirms its commitment to the country’s cricketing future.
