ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: Pakistan’s Semi-Final Hopes Hang in the Balance Against New Zealand

ICC Women's T20 World Cup

Pakistan’s prospects for advancing to the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup hinge on a must-win match against New Zealand on Monday. The crucial Group A encounter is set to take place at the Dubai Cricket Stadium, with the game kicking off at 7 pm PST. Both teams face a do-or-die situation, needing a victory to keep their semi-final aspirations alive.

The Green Shirts find themselves in third place in Group A after a promising start with a win over Sri Lanka. However, subsequent losses to India and Australia have left Pakistan in a tight spot, making the game against New Zealand pivotal for their progress in the tournament. Head coach Mohammad Wasim will lead a practice session on Sunday evening to prepare the team for this crucial match.

New Zealand, too, is in a similar position, needing maximum points to stay in contention for a semi-final spot. Both sides will be under immense pressure as they aim to secure a win that could extend their journey in the World Cup.

In their last outing, Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat to Australia, who won by 9 wickets in the 14th match of the tournament. Pakistan managed only 82 runs after being sent in to bat, with the Australian bowlers dominating early and restricting Pakistan’s progress. Stand-in captain Muneeba Ali was dismissed for 7 runs, while Aliya Riaz top-scored for Pakistan with 26 off 32 balls.
