Thomas Tuchel to Become New England Football Manager

Thomas Tuchel

Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is set to take on the role of England’s football manager, succeeding Gareth Southgate. Tuchel, a German, will be the third non-British coach to lead the England men’s team, following Southgate’s resignation after the Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.

Tuchel will officially take charge after Lee Carsley’s interim tenure, which wraps up with England’s final two Nations League matches in November against Greece and the Republic of Ireland. The Football Association (FA) plans to unveil Tuchel as the new manager on Wednesday at Wembley.

Known for his successful spell with Chelsea from 2021 to 2022, Tuchel led the team to victories in the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup. His last managerial role was at Bayern Munich, which he left after the club’s unsuccessful Bundesliga campaign last season.

Under Tuchel’s leadership, England will focus on securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Despite earlier interest in Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager turned down the FA’s approach, paving the way for Tuchel’s appointment. Neither the FA nor Tuchel’s representatives have commented on the move.
