The organizing committee for the Paris 2024 Olympics has postponed the men’s triathlon event, originally set for July 30 at 8:00 AM, due to concerns about water quality in the River Seine. This decision follows a meeting held earlier today at 3:30 AM with representatives from Paris 2024, World Triathlon, the International Olympic Committee, Météo France, the City of Paris, and the Île-de-France Prefecture.
The event has been rescheduled to July 31 at 10:45 AM. The women’s triathlon will still take place on July 31 at 8:00 AM, pending the results of upcoming water quality tests that must meet World Triathlon’s safety standards. An additional contingency day is planned for August 2 if further adjustments are necessary.

Paris 2024 and World Triathlon stressed that athlete safety is their highest priority. Recent tests showed that the Seine’s water quality was inadequate for safe swimming, impacted by rainfall on July 26 and 27. Despite some improvement, parts of the swim course still exceed safety limits.
Updates for athletes, including ticket and broadcast information for the rescheduled events, will be provided soon. A meeting at 8:00 AM will be held between World Triathlon and coaches to discuss the revised schedule and further details. Coaches will receive links for this meeting shortly.
