Simone Biles Clinches the Vault Gold Medal, Securing Her Third Olympic Victory

American gymnast Simone Biles secured her third Olympic gold of the Paris Games by winning the vault competition in a dominant performance. Following her gold in the women’s team event and the all-around title, the 27-year-old reclaimed the vault title she first earned at the Rio 2016 Games, having missed out in Tokyo due to withdrawing from several events.

Biles executed her Biles II vault flawlessly and followed up with a less complex but still challenging vault, earning an average score of 15.300.

Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade, who won the vault title in Tokyo and was the only gymnast to rival Biles closely, took silver with a score of 14.966, while American Jade Carey secured bronze with 14.466.

Biles had previously mentioned the stress of competing against Andrade, who has been a significant competitor. Despite speculation that Andrade might introduce a new, more difficult vault, she did not attempt it.

Andrade, who outperformed Biles in the vault at last year’s World Championships, scored higher in execution but could not match Biles’ difficulty level.

With this win, Simone Biles has become the third most decorated female gymnast with 10 Olympic medals. She has the opportunity to surpass Vera Caslavska’s record of 11 medals in the upcoming floor and beam finals. The all-time record of 18 medals is held by Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina.
