Microsoft Edge Restores Background YouTube Playback in Experimental Update

Microsoft Edge Restores Background YouTube Playback in Experimental Update

Microsoft has introduced a new workaround in its browser that improves video playback features. The change has been spotted in the experimental Microsoft Edge Canary version.

According to reports, Microsoft Edge now allows background YouTube playback even without a Premium subscription. This feature is currently available in the testing build of the browser.

The update comes as YouTube continues to restrict free access to Premium features. The platform has been actively blocking unofficial methods that allowed background playback.

Earlier this year, many third-party browsers lost the ability to play YouTube videos in the background. A Google representative confirmed that this was an intentional policy change.

However, Microsoft Edge appears to have found a way to bypass these restrictions in its Canary version. This version is mainly used for testing new features before public release.

An online report shared by insider Leopeva64 showed the feature in action. The video continued playing in Microsoft Edge even when the user switched tabs or returned to the home screen.

This makes it easier for users to listen to videos while multitasking. The feature improves background audio experience on mobile devices.

In addition, Microsoft Edge has added new audio indicators for tabs. These indicators show which tab is currently playing sound.

Users can now manage audio more easily through the tab switching menu. They also have the option to mute or unmute websites using the context menu.

The update is part of ongoing improvements in Microsoft Edge aimed at enhancing user experience. The browser continues to introduce features that improve multitasking and media control.

It is still unclear if this feature will be included in the stable version of Microsoft Edge. Since it is currently in Canary testing, changes may still be made.
