The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that Shahaji Nagar Municipal School in Trombay recorded 155.6mm of rain between 8am and 3pm on Sunday. Other notable rainfall figures include 151.1mm at the North Division office, 149.6mm at Nutan Vidyamandir in Mankhurd, and 129.2mm at Adarsh Nagar in Worli.

Flight interruptions

Severe rainfall in Mumbai has caused significant disruptions to flight operations, resulting in numerous cancellations and diversions. Air India is providing full refunds or a one-time free rescheduling for flights booked on July 21 due to the adverse weather.

IndiGo and Vistara have also issued warnings about potential disruptions, advising passengers to monitor their flight status due to the heavy rains and possible waterlogged roads.

On Sunday, Mumbai Airport saw the cancellation of 36 flights and the diversion of 15, including those by Air India, IndiGo, and Akasa, to nearby airports such as Ahmedabad due to intermittent heavy rainfall.

Runway operations were suspended twice on Sunday due to the rain, causing delays. Additionally, waterlogging near Mankhurd, Panvel, and Kurla stations led to delays for local trains on the Harbour Line, while the Western Railway line was unaffected. Central Railway services between Dadar and Matunga were also disrupted due to waterlogged tracks.

Weather Forecast

The IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall over the next five days in East Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, along with thunderstorms and lightning. Himachal Pradesh is expected to face severe to extremely heavy rains, with thunderstorms and lightning on Monday and Tuesday.

Rainfall is anticipated in districts such as Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Chamba, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Kullu, Mandi, and Kangra.

In Odisha, a cyclonic depression in the Bay of Bengal has caused heavy rain across several districts, impacting about 7,300 people in 1,045 villages across 111 Panchayats in Malkangiri district. The IMD forecasts that the depression will move northwest towards Chhattisgarh and weaken into a low-pressure area within the next 12 hours.
