US President Joe Biden has made it clear that he does not support an Israeli military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, despite rising tensions following Iran’s retaliatory missile barrage. While Biden emphasized the US’s commitment to Israel’s security, he urged for a proportional response to avoid escalating the conflict further across the Middle East.
This stance comes after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards launched more than 180 ballistic missiles at Israel, retaliating for the deaths of two key regional leaders, Hamas’ Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah’s Hassan Nasrallah. Although most of the missiles were intercepted, Israel reported damage near several airbases.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed severe consequences for Iran, and discussions between US and Israeli officials have focused on military options. However, the Biden administration is strongly discouraging strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, warning that such an escalation could draw the US into a direct conflict and potentially push Iran to accelerate its nuclear program.
The US, along with G7 nations, is also preparing to impose additional sanctions on Iran in response to the missile strikes, while urging both sides to avoid further destabilization.
The situation has the potential to ignite a broader regional conflict, with UN Secretary-General António Guterres calling for urgent de-escalation.
