Indian Journalist Faces Sedition Charges Over Priest’s Anti-Muslim Remarks

Journalist

AltNews co-founder Mohammed Zubair is facing fresh sedition charges in Uttar Pradesh after exposing inflammatory anti-Muslim remarks by Hindu priest Yati Narsinghanand. The charge, under Section 152 of India’s new criminal code, alleges Zubair “endangered the sovereignty and unity of India.”

The controversy arose after Zubair shared a video on social media of Narsinghanand’s speech targeting Prophet Muhammad, sparking protests. Critics claim the charges are part of a broader trend to suppress press freedom, as rights groups condemn the move as a “witch-hunt.”

This development highlights growing concerns over India’s declining press freedom, ranked 159th globally in 2023.
