MBS is Facing Assassination Threats due to his Push for Deal with Israel

A Politico report reveals that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) faces assassination threats due to his efforts to normalize relations with Israel.

MBS reportedly informed US Congress members of these threats as he seeks to broker a major agreement involving the US and Israel, which includes normalizing ties between Saudi Arabia and Israel.

According to Politico, MBS has emphasized the need to include a clear path to a Palestinian state in any agreement to address these threats. He referenced the assassination of former Egyptian leader Anwar Sadat, who was killed by extremists after signing a peace treaty with Israel.

MBS reportedly stressed the importance of addressing the Palestinian issue for maintaining his role as the custodian of Islam’s holy sites.

The report also notes that while recent concerns about assassination are unclear and the likelihood of an Israel-Saudi normalization deal has waned, MBS remains committed to pursuing the agreement.

However, Israeli resistance to including a credible path to a Palestinian state in the deal complicates the negotiations. Earlier this year, Saudi Arabia reiterated that it would not establish diplomatic relations with Israel without recognizing an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital.
