Saudi Arabia Forms New Body to Supervise Holiest Mosques

Saudi Arabia has declared the establishment of a fresh committee tasked with supervising the operations of the two most sacred mosques in Islam. The announcement was made by the Saudi Cabinet on Thursday.

These two mosques, namely the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, hold a special place in the Islamic faith.

King Salman will personally oversee this newly formed committee, referred to as the Presidency of Religious Affairs for the Grand Holy Mosque and the Prophet’s Holy Mosque.

The committee will be responsible for a range of religious matters at both mosques, encompassing sermons, religious teachings, and the call to prayer.

Moreover, the entity formerly identified as the “General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques” will now be acknowledged as the “General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.”

Its primary function will be to manage a variety of services, operations, maintenance, and enhancements associated with these revered sites.
