The Taliban-led Afghan government has banned mixed martial arts, citing its violent nature as inconsistent with Islamic principles. The decision followed an investigation by the Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, which concluded that the sport’s brutality violates Sharia law.
The Sports Authority justified the ban by highlighting the sport’s potential for severe injury or death, emphasizing that ensuring athlete safety is a top priority. Mixed martial arts will no longer be allowed in Afghanistan as a result.
