A massive fire at Gul Plaza has left six dead and dozens injured, while search teams continue looking for missing victims. Among the missing are two children, Khizar and Hyder, whose family last spoke with them at 1:00 AM on Sunday.
During the final call, the two children said they had climbed to the roof to escape the flames. They told their family that fire had surrounded them from below and urgently asked for help. Since then, there has been no update on their condition or location.
The blaze, which broke out late Saturday night, has caused widespread destruction. A woman tearfully described her son-in-lawโs shop being completely destroyed. She said the loss of his only source of income has left him deeply distressed, especially given the countryโs current economic situation.
Parts of Gul Plazaโs structure have also begun to collapse. On Sunday evening, a section of the faรงade fell, sending smoke and dust into the air. Cracks had appeared late Saturday night, and portions of the building gave way in stages. The intense heat from the fire left the structure unstable, complicating rescue efforts.
Firefighters have reportedly brought 60โ70 percent of the blaze under control after more than 17 hours. South DIG Police confirmed ongoing search and rescue operations, with fears that several people remain trapped under rubble. So far, 38 people are reported missing, and authorities are working to locate them.
Six bodies have been recovered and handed over to families, while 22 injured individuals remain under treatment. Tragically, a rescue worker, Farqan, also lost his life during the operation.
The Sindh government has instructed the South Zone police to set up a helpline for families and deployed additional officers to secure the area. Routes for emergency teams have been cleared to ensure uninterrupted rescue operations.
The situation remains critical as firefighters and rescue teams continue to battle the blaze and search for survivors. The fate of the two children remains uncertain, and families anxiously await news.
This disaster highlights the urgent need for strict fire safety measures in commercial buildings and swift government response to protect lives.
