Pakistan Faces Rising Temperatures and Dry Weather, PMD Warns

KARACHI โ€“ The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning about rising temperatures and dry weather in several regions. Officials expect above-normal temperatures over the coming days.

Temperatures in the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, and northern Baluchistan are predicted to remain more than eight degrees Celsius above normal. Southern Sindh and Baluchistan are also likely to experience temperatures above seven degrees Celsius than average.

The PMD highlighted that a heatwave could develop in the coming weeks, especially in southern Punjab and Sindh plains. Mean temperatures are expected to stay above normal in most parts of Pakistan. The strongest warming is projected for northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and northern Punjab.

Weather officials warned that increasing temperature gradients during spring may trigger dust storms, strong winds, and even hailstorms. Residents are advised to take precautions during this period.

While temperatures rise in the plains, rainfall is forecast in upper areas. From March 6 to 11, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to receive rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms. Murree, Galliyat, and the Potohar region are likely to experience rainfall on March 10 and 11.

The PMD also emphasized that these weather patterns are consistent with seasonal spring changes, where warming plains and cooler highlands create significant weather contrasts. Farmers and residents in affected areas should remain alert to sudden temperature shifts and possible storm activity.

With temperatures continuing to rise across the country, authorities urged citizens to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak heat hours. Local administrations have been advised to monitor vulnerable populations, especially in urban areas where temperatures are expected to be highest.
