A constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court heard petitions about three missing persons during a hearing in Karachi on Saturday. The case drew attention to ongoing concerns about missing citizens in the province.
During the hearing, the SHC reviewed separate petitions filed by families seeking help in locating their missing relatives. The court issued several directives to law enforcement authorities to speed up the recovery process.
The bench first addressed the case of a man named Waseem. He reportedly went missing from the Sachal area. The court ordered the Sachal police station to formally register a missing person case. Judges stressed that proper documentation is necessary for an effective investigation.
In another case, the SHC ordered the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT). The team will work to locate a missing citizen named Kaleemullah. The court directed that officials from human rights departments must also join the JIT. This step aims to ensure transparency during the investigation.
The bench also reviewed the disappearance of Sarwech Sargani. The court instructed the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shah Latif police station and the relevant Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to take immediate action. Authorities were told to intensify efforts to recover the missing man.
After reviewing all three cases, the SHC ordered police officials to submit a progress report within four weeks. The report must include details of investigation steps and any developments regarding the missing persons.
During the proceedings, police also shared updates from previous cases. According to the report, two missing individuals had already been located. These men were identified as Noman Shah and Saif ur Rehman.
Police informed the court that both individuals had safely returned to their homes. The two men were previously reported missing from areas under the Gulshan Iqbal and Shahrah Noorjahan police jurisdictions.
After reviewing the police report, the court decided to dismiss that particular petition. The bench concluded that the matter had been resolved since the missing persons had returned.
However, the court maintained its focus on other unresolved cases. The bench asked police departments to continue submitting updates regarding ongoing investigations.
