ISLAMABAD โ The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has introduced strict rules to regulate mobile package pricing, aiming to protect consumers from frequent price hikes.
Under the new Mobile Tariff Regulations 2025, telecom companies will no longer be allowed to increase mobile package prices every month. Previously, operators could revise tariffs after 30 days, but this permission has now been withdrawn.
Officials said the decision comes in response to growing public complaints about repeated price increases by telecom operators across Pakistan. The move is designed to create market stability and ensure transparency in telecom pricing.
Telecom companies can now only raise mobile package prices on a quarterly basis. PTA sources explained that this change will prevent sudden price spikes and provide relief to millions of mobile users.
In addition, companies must seek PTA approval before launching a new package or changing the price of an existing one. Operators will have to implement the regulatorโs permission before introducing new packages or adjusting tariffs.
The authority clarified that any allowed price increase must remain within a 10 to 20 percent range compared to last year. This ensures fairness while allowing companies to adjust for inflation or market conditions.
PTA officials emphasized that the new measures are part of a broader effort to maintain balance in Pakistanโs telecom sector. Regular monitoring of operators will ensure fair competition and prevent exploitation of consumers.
The revised regulations mark a significant step toward transparency in the telecom industry. Experts say the changes will benefit subscribers by stabilizing mobile package prices and preventing sudden increases that have long caused public dissatisfaction.
