Trump Says Countries Must Help Protect Strait of Hormuz During Iran Conflict

US President Donald Trump said his administration is speaking with several countries about protecting shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The move comes during the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump says his administration has contacted seven governments. The talks focus on helping secure the important waterway for global oil shipments.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the worldโ€™s most critical energy routes. Around 20 percent of global oil passes through this narrow channel. The conflict has disrupted tanker traffic and raised concerns about global energy supplies.

Trump says countries that rely on oil from the Gulf region should help protect the strait. He argued that these nations have a responsibility to secure their energy routes.

โ€œIโ€™m demanding that these countries come in and protect their own territory,โ€ Trump told reporters. He added that the region supplies much of their energy.

The US president did not name the seven countries involved in the discussions. However, he suggested several nations could take part in the effort. In a social media post, he mentioned China, France, Japan, South Korea, and United Kingdom among possible partners.

According to Trump, some countries may send warships to escort tankers through the waterway. Others may provide equipment such as minesweepers or special boats to support maritime security.

The conflict in the Middle East has entered its third week. Since February 28, the United States and Israel have carried out attacks on Iran. These strikes have targeted multiple locations across the country.

The tensions have also pushed oil prices higher. On Monday, Brent crude traded slightly above $103 per barrel. US crude prices were close to $98 per barrel.

During the same period, Trump says Washington has remained in contact with Iran. However, he expressed doubt that Tehran is ready for serious negotiations.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected claims that Iran asked for talks or a ceasefire. He said the country is prepared to defend itself for as long as needed.

Trump recently warned that the United States could carry out more strikes on Iranโ€™s oil export hub at Kharg Island. He also suggested the war could end within weeks, though no timeline has been confirmed.

Meanwhile, US officials expect a coalition of countries to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Reports say the announcement could come soon.

The situation continues to affect global markets and regional security. With tensions still high, the future of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains uncertain.
