Apple Intelligence to Support Third-Party AI Models in Major Update

Apple is reportedly preparing a major upgrade for its AI ecosystem. The update will expand how users interact with third-party AI tools through Apple devices.

According to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, Apple Intelligence will soon allow users to choose external AI models. This change is expected to bring more flexibility to Appleโ€™s artificial intelligence features.

The company is developing a new โ€œExtensionsโ€ system. This feature will let developers integrate their AI models directly into Apple services. These apps will be available through the App Store.

With this update, platforms like Google Gemini, OpenAI ChatGPT, and Anthropic Claude may become part of the system. Once activated, users will be able to select these models for different tasks.

Apple Intelligence features such as Writing Tools, Siri, and Image Playground could all support these third-party AI options. This will give users more control over their AI experience.

Reports suggest that Apple Intelligence may also introduce new voice options for Siri. These voices could be powered by external AI models like Google Gemini. Siri itself may also receive a refreshed and more advanced voice system.

The feature is expected to launch with iOS 27. It may also arrive on iPadOS 27 and macOS 27. Apple is likely to announce it at WWDC in June.

The rollout could happen later in the year alongside new iPhone models. These may include the iPhone 18 series and possibly a new foldable device.

Apple has faced criticism in recent years for falling behind in AI development. Competitors have invested heavily in artificial intelligence technologies.

To close the gap, Apple Intelligence has already integrated partnerships with companies like OpenAI and Google. This allows Apple users to access advanced AI tools without building them internally.

However, this strategy has also brought challenges. Apple recently agreed to a $250 million settlement over claims related to Apple Intelligence marketing accuracy.
