Punjab authorities are considering an early announcement of Summer Vacations for schools due to rising temperatures across the province. Heatwave warnings and weather advisories have increased concerns about student safety.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued alerts for May, June, and July. According to the advisory, temperatures are expected to remain above normal in most districts. This situation has triggered discussions about adjusting the academic calendar.
Officials are now reviewing the possibility of starting Summer Vacations earlier than scheduled. Normally, schools close in early June. However, this year the break may begin from May 27 due to expected Eid ul Adha holidays and extreme weather conditions.
Reports suggest that Eid ul Adha holidays are likely from May 27 to May 29. Since May 30 and May 31 fall on weekends, schools may already remain closed. This has strengthened the case for early Summer Vacations across the province.
Education authorities are closely monitoring the situation. The final decision is expected after consultations with relevant departments and weather experts. The aim is to ensure student safety during intense heat conditions.
At the same time, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has proposed changes to the academic calendar. He suggested reducing both Summer Vacations and winter breaks in the future. The proposal aims to recover academic losses and increase annual school days from 180 to 190.
Private school representatives have also shared their recommendations. They have requested permission to conduct short summer camps during Summer Vacations. These sessions would be held early in the morning from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. to avoid extreme heat.
Officials say these camps could help students continue learning during the break. However, safety measures and weather conditions will be considered before approval.
The final announcement regarding Summer Vacations is expected soon. Parents and schools are advised to stay updated through official notifications from education authorities.
