DHA Karachi Begins Process to Transfer Pervez Musharraf’s Properties to Legal Heirs

Pakistan Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Karachi has started the formal process to transfer Pervez Musharraf’s properties to his legal heirs, according to a newly issued public notice.

The notice confirmed that the late former president and military ruler owned multiple residential properties in DHA Karachi. The properties are located in DHA Phase VIII-D and include two separately allotted plots along with shared property covering nearly 2,000 square yards in total.

According to the official document, Pervez Musharraf’s recorded residential address was listed in DHA Phase VI, Karachi.

DHA officials stated that the transfer request has been submitted by Musharraf’s immediate family members. The applicants include his widow Sehba Pervez, daughter Ayla Raza, and son Bilal Musharraf.

The DHA administration has also invited the public to submit any objections or legal claims regarding the properties. Authorities said such concerns must be submitted to the Director of Transfer and Record within 15 days of the notice.

Officials clarified that once the deadline passes, no additional claims or objections will be entertained. This would allow the transfer process to move forward formally.

The development has drawn attention due to Pervez Musharraf’s political and military history in Pakistan.

Musharraf served in the Pakistan Army and participated in the 1965 and 1971 wars against India. He later rose through military ranks and became Chief of Army Staff in 1998.

In October 1999, Musharraf took control of the government through a military takeover that removed then-prime minister Nawaz Sharif from office. He later served as Pakistan’s president for several years.

Following political pressure and legal cases, Musharraf eventually went into self-imposed exile and spent years living in Dubai and London. He briefly returned to Pakistan in 2013 but later left again due to health issues and legal challenges.

Pervez Musharraf’s death was announced on February 5, 2023, in Dubai after a prolonged illness. He was 79 years old at the time of his death. His funeral prayers and burial later took place in Karachi.

The latest DHA notice has renewed public discussion around the former military ruler’s legacy and assets. Legal experts say the public notification process is a standard requirement before property ownership can officially be transferred to heirs.

The transfer process is expected to continue after the objection period ends, provided no legal disputes emerge regarding the listed properties.
