Authorities in Islamabad have banned an O Level textbook titled The History and Culture of Pakistan in private schools across the federal capital.
The order was issued by the ICT Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (ICT PERA). The authority directed all private schools to remove the O Level book from classrooms, school libraries, and teaching material with immediate effect.
Officials said the decision applies to all private educational institutions operating under ICT PERA. Schools have been instructed to fully comply with the order without delay.
The administration also introduced a new rule for private institutions. Schools will now need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) before adding any book to their academic syllabus. This step aims to ensure that all educational content meets official approval standards.
According to the latest instructions, no private school will be allowed to include any O Level or other academic book in its curriculum unless it has received proper clearance from the regulatory authority.
To enforce the ban, authorities have formed surprise inspection teams. These teams will visit schools across Islamabad to check whether the banned book is still being used.
Officials warned that strict action will be taken against institutions that fail to follow the instructions. Schools found violating the order may face legal proceedings and financial penalties.
The crackdown is not limited to schools. Authorities have also announced inspections of bookshops in Islamabad. The sale of books without NOC approval has been declared illegal.
Book sellers have been warned not to stock or sell unapproved educational material. Shops found violating the rules may also face legal action.
The decision has drawn attention from students, parents, and school administrations, especially those linked to the O Level education system. Many are now waiting for further clarification from education authorities regarding approved replacement material.
The latest move reflects tighter regulation of academic content in the federal capital. It also signals increased oversight of private educational institutions and the books taught in classrooms.
