Qingqi and Loader Rickshaws Banned From Key Road in Lahore

Qingqi and Loader Rickshaws Banned From Key Road in Lahore

The traffic police in Lahore have announced a complete ban on loader rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws on Canal Road. The decision was taken to improve traffic flow and reduce road accidents in the city.

According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, loader rickshaws often transport goods in an unsafe manner. He said overloaded vehicles increase the chances of serious and fatal accidents on busy roads.

The CTO added that Qingqi rickshaws are also causing major traffic problems on Canal Road. These vehicles move slowly and create congestion during peak hours. Traffic officials believe the restriction will help improve vehicle movement on one of the busiest roads in Lahore.

The traffic department has also started action against auto-rickshaw drivers carrying extra passengers beside the driverโ€™s seat. Officials said this practice violates traffic rules and creates safety risks for passengers and other motorists.

To enforce the ban, special traffic teams have been deployed at key locations across Lahore. These include Dharampura, Mughalpura, and Thokar Niaz Baig. Officers at these points have been instructed to stop loader and Qingqi rickshaws from entering Canal Road.

Traffic police stated that strict monitoring will continue in the coming days. Authorities also warned traffic officers against showing negligence during enforcement operations. Departmental action may be taken against officials who fail to implement the ban properly.

The decision is part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and traffic management in the city. Canal Road remains one of the most heavily used routes in Lahore, especially during office hours.
