Pakistan has extended restrictions on its Airspace for Indian flights until June 23, according to a fresh Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority.
The latest notification states that Indian-registered commercial aircraft and military planes will continue to remain prohibited from entering Pakistani Airspace during the extended period.
Officials also clarified that the restrictions apply not only to Indian-owned aircraft but also to planes leased or operated by Indian airlines and individuals. The updated NOTAM officially confirms the continuation of the ban for another period.
Pakistan had initially imposed the Airspace restriction on Indian flights on April 23 last year. Since then, the aviation restriction has remained in place through multiple extensions issued by authorities.
According to aviation officials, the fresh NOTAM was released to formally notify airlines and aviation authorities about the continued closure. International aviation procedures require such notices to inform operators about restrictions, route changes, and safety-related matters.
The ongoing restriction affects several Indian airlines that normally use Pakistani air routes for international operations. The closure forces airlines to adopt longer alternative routes, increasing flight times and operational costs.
Aviation experts say the restriction mainly impacts westbound flights traveling from India to destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and North America. Airlines often need to use different flight corridors to avoid restricted zones.
Industry analysts believe extended route changes can increase fuel consumption and operational expenses for airlines. Longer travel times may also affect scheduling and passenger convenience on certain international routes.
Pakistan’s Airports Authority has not announced any changes regarding the conditions attached to the ban. The latest NOTAM simply extends the existing restrictions until June 23.
The development comes amid continuing tensions between the two neighboring countries. Airspace restrictions are considered important aviation and diplomatic measures because they directly affect commercial flight operations.
Passengers traveling on international flights from India may continue experiencing longer journey durations while the restrictions remain active. Airlines are expected to continue adjusting schedules according to available alternative routes.
The aviation sector closely monitors such restrictions because they can influence regional air traffic movement and operational planning for international carriers.
Authorities in Pakistan have advised airlines and relevant aviation bodies to follow the updated NOTAM and comply with all operational instructions related to the restricted Airspace.
