PTA Imposes Nationwide Ban on SIM Sales Between Midnight and 6AM

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced a nationwide restriction on SIM Sales between 12 midnight and 6AM across all mobile phone companies in Pakistan. The move has been introduced to prevent illegal SIM issuance and improve the country’s telecom security system.

According to PTA officials, all mobile operators have been directed to suspend SIM Sales during the specified hours. The authority said the decision was taken due to increasing concerns about fake and unauthorized SIM usage across the country.

The new policy will apply to all authorized franchises, retailers, and mobile sales outlets operating in Pakistan. PTA stated that strict compliance with the updated operating hours will be mandatory for all telecom service providers and vendors.

Officials warned that legal and administrative action would be taken against individuals or businesses violating the instructions. PTA said penalties would be enforced under existing telecom laws and regulations.

The authority believes the restriction on SIM Sales will help strengthen consumer protection and reduce the misuse of illegally obtained SIM cards. Authorities also aim to improve transparency in the telecom sector through stricter monitoring measures.

PTA further advised citizens to purchase SIM cards only from authorized retailers during permitted operating hours. Consumers have also been instructed to ensure proper biometric verification before activating any new SIM card.

According to the telecom regulator, biometric verification remains one of the key requirements for preventing identity misuse and unauthorized mobile connections.

The PTA has additionally encouraged the public to report violations related to illegal SIM issuance or late-night sales activities. Complaints can be submitted through the PTA Complaint Management System, PTA CMS mobile application, WhatsApp Digital Assistant, or the official toll-free helpline.

A PTA spokesperson described the latest restriction as an important step toward creating a safer and more secure telecom environment in Pakistan. Officials believe tighter control over SIM Sales can help reduce fraud, cybercrime, and unauthorized communication activities.

The telecom authority has repeatedly highlighted concerns regarding fake SIMs being used for illegal activities. Security experts say stricter regulations and controlled distribution systems are necessary to prevent misuse of mobile networks.

The latest decision has already sparked discussion among mobile retailers and consumers. Some retailers fear reduced business activity during late-night hours, while others believe the move could improve monitoring and accountability within the telecom sector.
