Iranian Media Report Sparks Speculation Over Possible Cabinet Changes in Pakistan

An Iranian media report has sparked fresh discussion about a possible major reshuffle in Pakistanโ€™s federal cabinet. The report raised questions after it appeared to identify Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi as Pakistanโ€™s foreign minister.

The confusion started when the Tehran Times shared photos of a meeting in Iran. The meeting took place between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and a Pakistani delegation in Tehran.

In its report, the Iranian outlet described Araghchiโ€™s meeting as one with his โ€œPakistani counterpart.โ€ This wording appeared to refer to Naqvi. The statement quickly created speculation in political circles.

So far, the Pakistani government has not confirmed any changes in the foreign ministry. Official records still show Ishaq Dar as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs.

At the same time, Naqvi continues to serve as the federal minister for interior and narcotics control. He is also the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board and has held that role since February 2024.

The wording in the Iranian report has led to several questions. Some believe it may have been a simple reporting mistake. Others think it could hint at possible upcoming changes in the cabinet.

Political analysts say one possible option could be Naqvi taking over foreign affairs. In that case, Dar may return to focus on economic matters. Dar has served multiple times as finance minister and remains an important figure in Pakistanโ€™s economic policy.

If such changes happen, it would be a major shift in the cabinet. It would also come during an important time for Pakistanโ€™s diplomacy, IMF talks, and budget plans.

However, no official notification has been issued. Pakistanโ€™s Foreign Office still lists Dar as foreign minister. This suggests the Iranian report may simply be an error unless confirmed by Islamabad.
