Banks across Pakistan will remain closed on July 1, 2026, following an announcement by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The closure is being observed due to the beginning of the new financial year and will affect public banking services throughout the country.
According to the central bank, Wednesday, July 1, has been declared a bank holiday. During this time, customers will not be able to carry out routine banking transactions at branches. The decision applies to all scheduled banks operating in Pakistan.
The State Bank of Pakistan said the holiday is part of the annual financial procedures carried out at the start of every fiscal year. These activities allow financial institutions to complete accounting and administrative work related to the new financial cycle.
In addition to commercial Banks, the holiday will also apply to development finance institutions and microfinance banks. As a result, these organizations will also suspend public dealings on July 1.
Although banking services for customers will remain unavailable, bank employees will continue to attend their offices as usual. Staff members will perform internal financial and administrative tasks required for the transition into the new financial year.
Customers should note that branch-based services, including cash deposits, withdrawals, cheque processing, and other over-the-counter transactions, will not be available during the holiday. People planning important financial activities are advised to complete them before July 1 or wait until services resume.
The Banks are expected to reopen on Thursday, July 2, 2026, when normal banking operations and customer services will resume across the country.
The annual bank holiday is a standard practice observed by financial institutions in Pakistan. It allows banks to finalize financial records, update accounting systems, and prepare for operations in the new fiscal year.
Customers who need urgent banking services may still be able to use digital banking platforms. Internet banking, mobile banking applications, ATMs, and other electronic payment services are generally expected to remain available unless individual banks announce temporary maintenance.
The State Bank of Pakistan has encouraged customers to plan their financial transactions accordingly to avoid inconvenience during the one-day closure. Businesses and individuals with scheduled payments are also advised to complete their banking activities in advance.
The temporary closure affects only public dealings and does not mean that banking operations have completely stopped. Internal work will continue throughout the day as Banks prepare for the start of the new financial year.

With the holiday lasting only one day, customers can expect all regular banking services to return on July 2, allowing branches to resume normal operations across Pakistan.
