Murree is experiencing a surge in tourist arrivals this weekend, leading to severe traffic congestion on major roads and the Murree Expressway. Thousands of visitors have travelled to the popular hill station, causing long vehicle queues and significant travel delays.
The heavy flow of traffic has affected both tourists and local commuters. Many travelers have reported slow-moving traffic on key entry and exit routes, making journeys much longer than usual.
Authorities expect the number of visitors to increase further during the holiday period. As a result, additional pressure is likely to be placed on Murree’s road network over the coming days.
Traffic officials have advised motorists to plan their trips carefully before heading to the hill station. Travelers are also encouraged to allow extra travel time and stay updated on road conditions.
The ongoing congestion comes as City Traffic Police Murree continues its campaign to improve road safety and enforce traffic laws across the region.
Earlier, the traffic police intensified action against motorists driving without valid licences. The operation was launched on the instructions of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Punjab, Muhammad Waqas Nazir.
The campaign is being supervised by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Murree, Munir Ahmed Hashmi. During the operation, hundreds of challan tickets were issued to motorcyclists and other drivers found violating traffic regulations.
Officials said legal action is also being taken against motorists who fail to comply with the law.
According to a traffic police spokesperson, daily checkpoints and inspections have been established on major roads and important locations throughout the hill station. The aim is to ensure motorists follow traffic rules and carry valid driving licences.
The spokesperson reminded drivers that operating a vehicle without a valid licence is a legal offence. Motorists have been urged to keep their original driving licences with them at all times while driving.
CTO Munir Ahmed Hashmi appealed to the public to avoid driving vehicles or motorcycles without proper documentation. He stressed that following traffic laws is essential for protecting lives and reducing the risk of road accidents.
He added that traffic regulations are not only legal requirements but also important measures to ensure the safety of all road users.
The traffic police also reaffirmed their zero-tolerance policy against unlicensed driving. Officials said enforcement operations will continue without discrimination to improve road discipline and public safety.
The latest traffic situation follows recent concerns over road safety in the hill station. Authorities remain focused on preventing accidents while managing the large number of visitors arriving during the busy tourism season.
Murree remains one of Pakistan’s most popular tourist destinations, especially during weekends and public holidays. Its pleasant weather and scenic views attract thousands of visitors from across the country throughout the year.
Officials have advised tourists to cooperate with traffic police, follow road safety instructions, and avoid unnecessary stops on busy roads. They also urged travelers to maintain patience during peak hours as authorities work to manage the increased traffic flow.
