The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has taken strict action and Seals Hardee outlet at the Sukheki Motorway Service Area after finding several food safety and hygiene violations during a surprise inspection. The restaurant had recently started operations at the motorway service area.
The inspection was carried out under the Punjab government’s Safe Food campaign. The initiative was launched on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. It aims to improve food safety standards and ensure restaurants follow health regulations across the province.
According to the Punjab Food Authority, inspectors found serious issues during the visit. Officials said the restaurant was using completely unfiltered water through an unhygienic and non-compliant reverse osmosis (RO) filtration system. The authority said such practices can pose health risks to customers.
The inspection team also recovered rotten vegetables from the outlet. Officials found that several food items were not stored properly. They also discovered sauces and condiments that had no production or expiry dates. These findings raised concerns about the restaurant’s food handling practices.
The authority further reported poor sanitation in both the kitchen and storage areas. Inspectors described the overall hygiene conditions as below the required standards. The department said food businesses must maintain clean kitchens and safe storage conditions at all times.
Following the inspection, the PFA immediately Seals Hardee outlet and imposed a heavy fine. Officials said the restaurant will remain closed until every food safety issue has been resolved. The outlet must also improve its water filtration system, food storage methods, and hygiene standards before it can reopen.
The Punjab Food Authority stated that the restaurant will only be allowed to resume operations after a complete inspection confirms compliance with all food safety regulations. Authorities said strict monitoring will continue to ensure public health remains protected.
The department emphasized that consumer safety is its highest priority. It said inspections will continue across Punjab under the Safe Food campaign. Restaurants and food businesses that fail to meet legal standards will face similar action.
