International crude oil prices fell sharply on Tuesday, with Brent crude dropping below $100 per barrel. However, Pakistani consumers may have to wait before seeing a major reduction in Petrol prices.

The recent decline in global oil prices has raised expectations of cheaper fuel in Pakistan. However, local prices are not adjusted immediately after international rates fall.

The Petroleum Division uses a seven-working-day rolling average to calculate fuel prices. This method considers international oil prices over several working days.

As a result, a sudden decline in crude prices does not immediately translate into lower Petrol prices. It can take several days before the impact reaches the domestic market.

At the time of reporting, Brent crude was trading at around $99.70 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was near $91 per barrel.

Meanwhile, Murban crude was trading at approximately $114 per barrel. These international prices remain important indicators for Pakistan’s fuel pricing calculations.

Global oil markets have recently faced pressure due to developments involving the United States and Iran. Markets are closely monitoring possible progress in diplomatic talks between both countries.

Any progress in the talks could reduce concerns about possible supply disruptions. Such developments may also put further pressure on international crude prices.

However, the recent decline has not been consistent. Oil prices have moved sharply as traders respond to changing geopolitical developments.

Market participants are also watching developments expected after the United Nations General Assembly session. Further updates regarding US-Iran discussions could influence crude prices.

Some traders had previously taken positions expecting oil prices to decline. They are now closing those positions while waiting for clearer signals from diplomatic developments.

The Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers have also called on Iran to stop arming Yemen. The statement adds to international diplomatic pressure surrounding the region.

For Pakistani consumers, the key factor remains the domestic fuel pricing formula. Even if global crude prices continue falling, the impact on Petrol prices may take time.

The seven-working-day average means consumers may not immediately benefit from sudden international price declines. Future crude movements will therefore remain important for the next domestic fuel price review.

For now, Pakistani motorists are waiting for the recent international oil decline to reflect in local Petrol prices.
