RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Traffic Police will launch a major crackdown on vehicles emitting Smoke to control air pollution and reduce smog in the city. The action follows directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam.
Authorities have formed special squads and inspection teams to identify vehicles contributing to air pollution. These teams will inspect vehicles at transport terminals and the city’s entry and exit points.
The campaign aims to prevent heavily polluting vehicles from operating on Rawalpindi’s roads. Officials will check vehicles and take action against those violating environmental and traffic regulations.
Police to Impound Smoke-Emitting Vehicles
Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam said authorities would not allow Smoke-emitting vehicles to enter Rawalpindi. Vehicles found violating the rules will face strict action.
According to the instructions, traffic police will impound vehicles producing excessive Smoke. Owners of these vehicles will also face heavy fines for violating the regulations.
The enforcement teams will focus on locations where vehicles enter or leave the city. Transport terminals will also remain under inspection during the campaign.
These measures are intended to discourage vehicle owners from using vehicles that contribute to air pollution. Officials expect the crackdown to improve compliance with vehicle fitness requirements.
Fitness Certificates Required for Release
Authorities have also clarified the conditions for releasing impounded vehicles. Vehicles seized during the operation will remain in police custody until their owners obtain valid fitness certificates.
Owners must ensure their vehicles meet the required fitness standards before seeking their release. The certificates will confirm whether the vehicles comply with the applicable requirements.
The decision places responsibility on vehicle owners to maintain their vehicles properly. It also aims to prevent polluting vehicles from returning to the roads without meeting the required standards.
Crackdown Aims to Reduce Air Pollution
Smoke from vehicles is one of the sources of air pollution in urban areas. Vehicle emissions can contribute to poor air quality, particularly during periods of increased smog.
Rawalpindi Traffic Police will use special inspection teams to identify vehicles that fail to meet the required standards. The operation will cover key locations across the city.
The campaign follows the provincial government’s efforts to address pollution and improve environmental conditions. Strict enforcement may encourage vehicle owners to maintain their vehicles and obtain valid fitness certificates.
