Storm Ashley

The UK and Ireland are bracing for the impact of Storm Ashley, the first named storm of the season, which is expected to bring severe weather this weekend. An amber warning has been issued for parts of northern and western Scotland, with the storm anticipated to develop “explosively” over the Atlantic before making landfall.

Storm Ashley could bring wind gusts of up to 80 mph, with warnings in place from 9 AM to midnight on Sunday in Scotland. In addition, parts of Ireland’s west coast will also be under an amber warning, while a yellow weather warning covers all of Ireland, Northern Ireland, much of Scotland, west Wales, and the North West of England from Sunday into Monday.

The storm is expected to form near the Canadian coast on Friday before hitting Ireland and subsequently moving to the UK. The Met Office has indicated that the wind warning for Sunday may be updated as more data becomes available, highlighting the potential for disruption in various areas.

Before the storm hits, unsettled weather is predicted for Saturday, with rain expected across the UK. However, conditions are expected to improve by the evening, leading to a dry end to the day for most. Sunday will see the arrival of Storm Ashley, with stronger winds expected, particularly in northern and western regions.

A yellow severe weather warning is in effect from 3 AM on Sunday until midday on Monday, with ongoing assessments likely to bring further updates as the storm approaches.
