Tyson Fury Announces Retirement from Boxing After Second Defeat to Oleksandr Usyk

Tyson Fury has announced his retirement from boxing, just under a month after suffering his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk in a highly anticipated rematch.

The undefeated heavyweight champion shared the news via a video on Instagram, thanking everyone who supported him throughout his career and adding, “Happy New Year, Jesus is king now & forever.”

In the video, Fury stated, “Hi everybody. I’ll keep this short. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, and I’ll leave you with this: Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless, see you on the other side. Get up.”

Fury’s decision comes after his second defeat to Usyk, marking the only two losses in his career. The rematch, held in Saudi Arabia, saw Fury lose by unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring 116-112 in favor of Usyk.

This isn’t the first time Fury has announced his retirement. Before his 2022 fight with Dillian Whyte, he claimed he was stepping away from boxing, having “£150m in the bank and nothing to prove.” However, after winning, he reversed his decision and even expressed his intention to retire undefeated, like legendary boxer Rocky Marciano.

Following his defeat to Usyk, Fury remained uncertain about his boxing future, telling reporters, “You might do, you might not do. Who knows? We’ll talk about that next year.”

He also expressed dissatisfaction with the judges’ decisions, claiming Usyk received “an early Christmas gift” and that he felt he had won both fights. “I will always feel a little bit hard done by,” he added. Fury, who spent three months training for the rematch, had skipped time with his wife Paris and their seven children but looked forward to a quiet Christmas at home.
