In a significant step forward, the long-awaited plan to provide free meals to students in Sindh public schools has finally come to life at Allama Iqbal Government Boys and Girls Primary and Secondary School. Thanks to Saylani Welfare, a charitable organization, students now receive nutritious meals daily during their morning break.
The initiative gained momentum after the Sindh government entrusted the school’s management to MQM-P MPA Adil Askari. Under this leadership, the school has seen a variety of meals being served, from chicken rolls to biryani, kebabs, and dal chawal, ensuring a diverse menu. The meals are either served on traditional dastar-khwans or distributed in an orderly queue, creating a well-organized system.

This program aligns with the Sindh Education Minister’s recent announcement to extend free meals to select schools starting in the new academic session in April. During a recent visit, students were seen enjoying their meals with enthusiasm. Many expressed how the meals have not only nourished them but also motivated them to attend school regularly.
The program has had a noticeable impact on attendance, with many students who were once irregular now attending school daily. School principal Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sialvi highlighted the positive effect on enrollment, with more parents choosing to send their children to school instead of having them work to support the family.
