Iran to Hold State Funerals for Commanders and Scientists Killed in Conflict On Saturday

Iran will hold nationwide state funerals on Saturday for senior military commanders and top scientists who lost their lives during the country’s 12-day war with Israel, state media reported. The ceremony will begin at 8:00 am in Tehran, following the recent ceasefire agreement that brought the intense conflict to a halt.

The Iranian state news agency IRNA confirmed that the national funeral will honor those killed in Israeli strikes, which Tehran has labeled acts of aggression by the “Zionist regime.” Among the most high-profile casualties was Revolutionary Guards chief Hossein Salami, who died on the war’s first day and is scheduled to be buried Thursday in central Iran.

The conflict erupted on June 13 when Israel launched a major aerial campaign targeting Iranian nuclear and military facilities. The strikes claimed the lives of several top officials and devastated residential areas, leaving at least 610 civilians dead and over 4,700 injured, according to Iran’s health ministry.

Iran responded with a series of retaliatory attacks that, according to official figures, resulted in 28 Israeli deaths. The conflict marks one of the most significant military escalations between the two regional rivals in recent history.
