GUANGZHOU – China has once again showcased its engineering strength by opening the world’s highest bridge, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, to traffic on September 28.
The bridge, located in Guizhou Province, stands at an incredible height of 625 meters. This makes it taller than the iconic World Trade Center in the United States.
Engineering Milestones
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge sets two major world records. It is now the highest bridge in the world and also the largest span bridge ever built in a mountainous region.
Stretching 2,890 meters in total length, the bridge includes a main span of 1,420 meters. Despite its massive scale, it was completed in just three years at a cost of about $283 million. This achievement highlights China’s ability to deliver complex infrastructure projects with speed and precision.
Advanced Safety and Design
Experts describe the project as a modern engineering marvel. Built with advanced safety features, the bridge can endure earthquakes and extreme weather. Its design also ensures smooth and safe travel for heavy traffic across the rugged terrain of Guizhou.
Boost to Connectivity and Economy
The new bridge is a vital part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, which focuses on improving regional connectivity. It will cut travel times across the region, boost trade, attract investment, and encourage tourism.
Standing taller than many skyscrapers, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is expected to become a tourist attraction itself. With its scenic location and record-breaking height, it promises to draw visitors from across China and around the globe.
This latest achievement reinforces China’s status as a leader in modern infrastructure and engineering innovation.
