Samsung Electronics has announced its first line of microSD Express cards, designed to enhance the gaming experience on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. These new cards, named Samsung P9 Express, will be available in 256GB and 512GB storage options, offering gamers fast and reliable performance for all their titles and downloadable content.
The Samsung P9 microSD Express cards aim to provide smooth gameplay and quick data transfer speeds for both casual and professional gamers. The 512GB version is currently available on Amazon for $94.99, including a $5 discount via an on-page coupon. Meanwhile, the 256GB model is priced at its regular $54.99.
Although the price cut is small, Samsungβs 512GB card remains about $20 cheaper than most other high-capacity microSD Express cards on the market. The only lower-priced alternative is Walmartβs Onn brand card, which typically costs around $85 but is frequently out of stock.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is among the first mainstream devices to support microSD Express cards, allowing players to expand storage significantly. However, these cards are also compatible with select cameras, drones, and tablets that use microSD UHS-I slots. Samsungβs P9 card offers sequential read speeds up to 800MB/s, though only devices equipped with a microSD Express slot can fully utilize this speed.
In terms of capacity, the 512GB card can store dozens of smaller titles like Silksong (4.1GB each) or larger games such as Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, which requires 43.4GB. Even the 93GB Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will fit comfortably.
As digital gaming continues to grow, even players who prefer physical copies may find a microSD Express card essential, as many modern games now require large digital downloads.
